Hello guys! Welcome back! We wrapped up the plants we saw in the first part of this series, and now we will take a look at the beautiful animals we spotted!
One day as a sort of 'side-quest' to our tour, we stopped by a local beach. As we walked there we spotted a large group of white-faced monkeys! Out of the three most common monkeys in the area the white-faced monkey was by far the one most visible and easy to find. So as a result, we found them hanging around the beach and playing with each other. Not only were there a lot of them but they weren't scared of humans either! Not only were they not scared but you had to have a good grip on your food or else on of these little guys would try and grab it! It even tried grabbing our guides phone as he tried to take a picture of it.

These monkeys were also very smart, they knew were to find food and humans and were quite well behaved!(Putting aside the whole 'trying to steal human belongings' part).
While driving to our next hiking spot with our guide, we made a stop for a small break. During that break our guide was keeping a look out for sloths in the trees. As we helped our guide a man who owned a home nearby stopped us and led us to his home. He simply let us into his home and lead us down a path into his backyard. Once he stopped he pointed out an algae covered sloth lounging in a tree above! I was initially shocked because of how friendly the man was, simply letting a stranger into his home! But that man allowed my family and I to see a sloth for the first time in the wild.

We were having a nice golf-cart ride when I spotted what looks exactly like an American squirrel, except it was white and black, unlike the typical brown of the American squirrels. Say hello to the variegated squirrel!

These little guys were by far the cutest animal I saw on this trip. As per their name, they are the squirrels of Costa Rica! Aside from not eating nuts and being much leaner than the squirrels of the United States, they acted the exact same as any other squirrel. They were super adorable!
When we were at the beach mentioned just above, we also spotted a large group of coatis! The entire time all they did was simply stick their long snouts into the ground and sniff for food. Compared to the white faced monkeys they were incredibly calm and they didn't even try and socialize with the monkeys! They are apart of the raccoon family and acted a lot like them! You could consider them the raccoons of Costa Rica.

Thanks for reading todays blog! And see you in the next part!
